Piano Marine Mike

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS (July 29, 2026) — When retired Marine Corps veteran and pianist Mike Rogers, known to audiences as Piano Marine Mike, lost his wife of 52 years, Debi, in 2023, he believed the final chapter of his love story had already been written.

"I thought love had already written its final chapter for me," Rogers said.

After more than five decades together, Rogers suddenly found himself navigating life alone. In the quiet that followed, he returned to the piano.

"Playing piano became a place where I could grieve, remember, and slowly begin to heal."

For months, Rogers rarely looked at his phone. When he finally opened his messages, he discovered a note of sympathy from Judy, one of Debi's longtime friends. Years earlier, the two couples had attended church together while Rogers was stationed in Hawaii with the United States Marine Corps. Together, they taught English to Vietnamese refugees through their church and built friendships that would last a lifetime.

Nearly a year after Judy first reached out, Rogers finally replied.

The conversation that followed lasted for hours.

"It felt as though no time had passed at all," he recalled.

What began as a simple exchange between old friends eventually became something neither of them expected—a second chance at love. 

This unexpected relationship also led Rogers to begin a new chapter hundreds of miles from the place he called home. He left Kentucky and moved to Bryan, Texas, where he and Judy began to build a new life together.

Today, Mike and Judy are married. On August 1, Rogers will share their remarkable story through his new album titled “A Texas Kind of Love”, a collection of original piano compositions celebrating hope, healing, cherished memories, gratitude, and the unexpected gift of finding love again.

"Love does not erase the chapters that came before," Rogers said. "It teaches the heart how to keep writing."

The album was inspired by the couple's journey and traces the emotional journey from heartbreak to hope, reminding listeners that while grief may change us, it does not have to define the rest of our story.

Now living in Bryan, Texas, Rogers hopes the music will resonate with anyone who has experienced grief, loss, or a major life transition.

"It's amazing how God can bring beauty from the hardest seasons of our lives," said Rogers. "I never expected to fall in love again. This album is my way of sharing that hope with anyone who has ever wondered if joy could return."

Rogers' life has been anything but ordinary. When he was a child, Rogers burned his hand on a radiator leaving a large scar that is there to this day. The doctor told his mother that he needed to keep his hands moving, so she put him in piano lessons at six years of age. His teacher, Mrs. Hicks, was a graduate of New York’s Juilliard Conservatory. He took lessons for 12 years and wrote his first song at the age of 16. That very song became a family favorite and eventually was given a title by his late wife, Debi. She called it, “The Creator.” As a young man, he signed up to serve in the United States Marine Corps in Hawaii and Vietnam. He was once recognized in the newspaper as “that piano-playing marine.” Later he found faith and moved overseas to Costa Rica and Venezuela to serve as a missionary often translating for teams that came in to provide medical care and more to those living in the barrios of Caracas to villages in the Amazon jungle. 

Now, at 76 years old he is starting a new career as a pianist and composer. Today he continues to create original piano music inspired by faith, resilience, gratitude, and the unexpected blessings that can emerge from life's most difficult seasons.

"This unexpected love inspired a new collection of songs shaped by Texas, cherished memories, gratitude, and the joy of finding love when I least expected it."

A Texas Kind of Love will be available on all major streaming platforms August 1, 2026.
